Something Better in Fluorescent

Ordered 3 pieces in one month. With the first bulb, all I had to do was take the styrofoam balls off the glass and wipe them clean - it's still working well, it's been on for about 20 hours now. The second was covered in what appeared to be cat hair. Styrofoam balls, he also had a brown ball the size of a fingertip of a substance that alcohol wouldn't remove. I assumed it was a lightbulb someone else was using. I scraped a razor blade and now I think it's glue from the assembly. Also the hair seems to be strands of fiberglass, I brushed it and it works. The third had glue balls, fiberglass and didn't work right out of the box, the replacement was cleaner and worked fine. So really, I think it's just poor quality control. They talk about not touching the glass, but the bulbs arrive covered with tiny balls of static styrofoam from the packaging (you have to put them in a plastic sleeve that fits inside the styrofoam case) and two out of three of them have adhesive patches to hold the bulb against the light, drag them all over the glass, and even after scraping them off you can still see a thin layer of them. Generally, the ones that actually work cost $25.

Pros
  • Works with any standard E26/27 threaded fitting, no special fittings required.
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
