Review on ANTLINE Extremely Bright 3157 LED Bulbs - 1260 Lumens, White - Pack of 4 for Car Backup, Brake, Tail, Turn Signal Lights by Wayne Burkett

Problem with the optics: Turn signal lamps

The lamp turns on, it's nice and white but actually a lot less bright than the stock lamp. The problem is that the lens around the bulb is designed to accommodate the filament in a specific location. The LEDs are not in this place and scattered because the lamp is long. So while the LEDs themselves can be brighter (though not very obviously), the fact that the source is out of focus of the lens means the effective brightness is much lower. I just replaced one of my DRLs with a 2005 Silverado and compared the two lights from a short distance. The LED side was much whiter but actually less bright. The bulb side had a full lens filled with light, the LED side only had partial fill depending on where I was standing. Thus, the physical layout of this lamp destroys the optical properties of the light assembly. I went back to the original lamps. I tried the same with the reverse lights with the same result. Light does not fill the entire area of the lens. It's a lot whiter than a regular incandescent bulb, but I've decided to keep one and try it out at night to see if it glows better anyway. Haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'll post what I find.

Pros
  • Absolutely brilliant!
Cons
  • Lots of things
