I'm moving from Boston (where I bike every day) to Austin (where motorists and summer heat sometimes make cycling difficult) and am now a grad student with an sedentary lifestyle I soon found even a lump on a log. I had CycleOps Hydros for skiing a few years ago when Boston was covered in snow and they bored me to tears. To get back in shape I ordered one of these and after a week and a half of riding I have to say I love it. The requirement to balance and rotate smoothly makes the workout more interesting. Shifting gears can alter the feel/resistance to some degree for a change. It rolls fairly smoothly and quietly, and the taper means you still have to balance yourself, you can watch Netflix while driving if you want. If you stray too far off center, the rollers can make a slight noise as they bounce sideways, but that goes away as you stabilize. When assembling the frame I had an issue with one of the holes where the spring pins pop out to fix the length of the frame. The shape of the hole was slightly distorted, preventing the pin from snapping into place. However, this was quickly corrected by slightly widening one side of the hole with an x-acto blade. Without this small necessary correction I would have given 5 stars. Edit: After almost 600 miles on these reels they are doing great. The bearings still spin smoothly and the rollers show little to no wear.
