MUCH better than stock starter

Installed on a 1987 Ford F250 6.9 IDI TD When I first saw the price of this starter I was skeptical. I didn't know how good this engine was, but most people who have IDI diesel engines say it's worth buying and I couldn't help but agree. With two very strong batteries, the starting speed is almost the same as the idle speed. It's also a lot more compact than the original unit as it uses a gearbox to give it that extra boost to turn my heavy engine. It fits perfectly and makes better use of the space. Just keep this in mind when changing that starter to disconnect the batteries. It's so easy to short out that big positive wire. The first two screws on the bottom are easy to remove, but grab the top one first so it doesn't fall on you while you're trying to pull it out. The default launcher is a heavy SOB. Once your stock starter fails the only tricky thing is the top screw, but due to the orientation of this new starter it's a lot harder to get to. That's all. Took me about 45 minutes to replace and install a new one. You will need a 1/2 or 9/16 socket for the 3 bolts that attach the starter to the transmission, 11/16 for the positive wire clamp and 5/16. 16 for signal wire. Longer extensions will make that top screw much easier, and a universal joint or swivel bushing will help you put a new one in when installing that top screw.
