Bugani fan disappointed with this column

I have an M83 and I used to have an M90 when the brand was "Photive". In fact, Photive/Bugani were the first to use passive bass for Bluetooth speakers. The M83 was better than the M90 and I was hoping the M118 would continue that trend. Unfortunately, after several hours of comparing the M83 and M118, this is not the case. Yes, the speaker is loud, but only marginally louder than the M83. The sound quality of the M118 is significantly inferior to the M83. The sound of the M118 is surprisingly tinny for such a large speaker with so much power. I don't think muted is the right word because the music is clean. But the soundstage is very narrow, the speaker seems to live in the mids and highs with no bass support. Which is really strange because the M118 has really good bass. Passive subwoofers absolutely help reproduce deep bass, but they don't help the speaker reproduce deep sounds that aren't bass. On the other hand, the M83 has a much wider soundstage. Songs sound much fuller on the M83 than on the M118. I also feel that the bass is better on the M83. The M83 is much better at reproducing wub and reverb in space. The M118's bass hits, don't get me wrong, but it's almost as if it doesn't let the bass breathe, and therefore a lot less wob and less reverb. I wonder if this is due to the location of the passive subwoofers, which are on the back on the M83 (and M90) and on the side on the M118? Subwoofers are designed to hit walls, preferably corners, to allow low-frequency sound waves to bounce off the walls, allowing you to "feel" the bass. The M83 fires back, the M118 fires sideways in both directions. Keep in mind that my testing was done indoors and it's possible that a passive double ended flame subwoofer like the M118 will sound better outdoors than an anti-flame subwoofer like the M83. I will not return the M118 immediately. I want to see if speaker hacking helps at all. If I had to use one word to describe the M118 it would be "hard", leading me to believe this speaker could benefit from a hack. used to the sound. I personally think it depends on the speaker/manufacturer. Luckily in a month I'll still have my M83 to compare and see if there's a difference. I will then update this review.
