Review on πŸ”‹ 10 Year Sealed Battery Backup Photoelectric Smoke Detector - First Alert P1010 by Dustin Miller

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent addition to "regular " ionization detectors

I bought these photoelectric smoke detectors to use as an additional "complement" to the ionization smoke detectors I already had at home. If you do a little research online you will find that there are two types of detectors, ionization and photoelectric detectors, that actually "see" smoke particles in the air. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. I love these little First Alerts because they're super easy to install: all you have to do is find a stud high up on the wall or even the ceiling and just screw the base on with the screw provided. You then simply twist the detector into place after removing the plastic tab on the battery. That's all. Since the smoke will rise, you'll want to place them either on the ceiling or as close to the ceiling as possible on the wall. You can also just put them on a very high bookshelf or cupboard instead of drilling a hole in the ceiling or wall, but remember that the alarm will not go off until the smoke rises to that level. when they were working in the kitchen, if something like a tortilla or a piece of bread was over toasted - enough to give off a lot of smoke. I installed some of these from previous purchases over two or three years ago and the battery has not failed yet. I set up a calendar entry on my google calendar to remind me to replace them in 10 years. This is a great purchase that gives you extra peace of mind and also makes a great gift for college students or others moving into their own dorm or apartment for the first time.
