Do yourself a favor and buy these smoke alarms!

I bought two of these units to mount in the long hallway of our house. In my opinion, these devices are worth the higher price given the following advantages: their smaller size, photocell technology and 10 year battery life! The device is very easy to install: (1) Turn the device counterclockwise. from the bracket. (2) Remove the card from the holder and discard (used for shipping only). (3) Use the supplied screws to fix the mounting bracket to the wall/ceiling. (4) Write the installation…

Pros
  • Convenient mounting bracket for easy wall or ceiling mounting
Cons
  • Generally fine, but...

It's really tiny, it's only a little bigger than a golf ball

I did a lot of research before I got a smoke alarm and that's why I went for it: There are two technologies: photovoltaic and ionization. While ionization alarms usually go off earlier, they're actually worse because not only do they often go off during cooking and are turned off by users due to too many false alarms, but they also sometimes supposedly NOT go off during a fire. Dual sensors are NOT what you want as they will not trigger unless both types are activated internally meaning dual…

How to Activate - If you think it doesn't work on arrival

As far as I can tell the instructions tell you all but the essential details of how to ACTIVATE the device. Since that process isn't entirely obvious, I almost got mine back. (The print on the instructions is really microscopic, I had to take a picture with my camera to read it, so it's probably in there somewhere and I missed it.) The activation instructions appear to be printed on the INSIDE of the DEVICE . To open them, you must unscrew them from the mounting base. The thing to know here is…

Excellent addition to "regular " ionization detectors

I bought these photoelectric smoke detectors to use as an additional "complement" to the ionization smoke detectors I already had at home. If you do a little research online you will find that there are two types of detectors, ionization and photoelectric detectors, that actually "see" smoke particles in the air. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. I love these little First Alerts because they're super easy to install: all you have to do is find a stud high up on the wall or even the…
