Review on πŸ”‹ 10 Year Sealed Battery Backup Photoelectric Smoke Detector - First Alert P1010 by Justin Steele

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It's really tiny, it's only a little bigger than a golf ball

I did a lot of research before I got a smoke alarm and that's why I went for it: There are two technologies: photovoltaic and ionization. While ionization alarms usually go off earlier, they're actually worse because not only do they often go off during cooking and are turned off by users due to too many false alarms, but they also sometimes supposedly NOT go off during a fire. Dual sensors are NOT what you want as they will not trigger unless both types are activated internally meaning dual sensors most likely will not trigger during a fire. So photovoltaic is the best to get. (Although it might be nice to have one of each type in different locations.) This is the type you want, photovoltaic. Another reason is that some batteries often die, this one has batteries that last the life of the alarm, which in turn increases the likelihood that it will go off when needed, and you don't have to keep chasing squeaky phantoms around the house for a few months or years it lasts 10 years, after that you have to buy a new one. Those with removable batteries shouldn't be used for more than 10 years, so it's dangerous if you don't keep an eye on them. And finally, I chose this one because it has great style (it's really tiny, it's just a bit bigger than a golf ball). And because it had some of the best ratings, that means it's the least likely to fail and the most likely to work in a fire situation.
