Easy to clean and good looking

Washing didn't take long. In fact just a little washed and it's ready to go. The minimal turbidity disappeared within 12 hours. Beautiful and natural. The pictures do not convey this.

Creates an algal bloom

I installed this tank 2 months ago, no fish just live plants/tree. The stones are beautiful, I washed them before putting them in the aquarium. The temperature is within 70, sunlight does not fall on the tank. I noticed that brown algae are slowly growing in the new tank. Live plants and wood are taken from my 35 gallons (straight hand) that don't have these algae. Now a green strand is growing and covering one of my plants. I don't think the stones are properly cleaned before shipping and that

50 shades of gray for aquarium substrate

Bought this expensive gravel specifically because of the beautiful, vibrant colors in the pictures and on the bag. All those browns, oranges and yellows are just what I need. VERY disappointed when I opened the bag and found nothing but various shades of dark grey. Literally not a single brown piece there. Is that aquarium gravel? Yes. This will get the job done. It was pretty clean too. Just don't believe in a pretty picture by daydreaming about how great these colors will look in your…

Tiny! Very pretty!

No matter how small they may seem to you, they are smaller. I lost a few through the smallest of holes in the screen! Haha! However, I love her so much! The color is great, they weren't too dusty and my fish and snails seem happy. I added them to the installed tank, so I went very slowly so as not to stress everyone too much. It was smooth and simple, only long. Luckily, after rinsing twice, the stones produced minimal clouds of dust. My snails started digging right away and it's so cool to…

Great material for gravel

I was specifically looking for fine gravel for my planted aquarium and chose it for its darker color and smoothness. I prefer a darker substrate and needed a finer, smoother substrate for my bottom feeders, but didn't want to use sand. It's not as dark as I thought it would be, but it still looks great, like dark river rock with colorful pebbles. I have it in one tank that is medium hard at pH 7.4, another tank that I keep softer at pH 6.8 and another tank that is super soft at pH 6.4 so it…

Highly recommend and will buy again

This gravel averaged 1/3 to 1/5 green pea size. I would say it's a mix of regular gravel and fish storage sand. When wet it is a very dark brown color. For the most part it's round and smooth, like a river rock, so it doesn't hurt my bottom feeders. And hallelujah, it required minimal cleaning. I rinsed it in a bucket of water and only watered 3 times and the water ran clear. I wanted a dark, smooth, fine gravel that I can scratch, so it's perfect for my needs. I'm just setting up my second…

Realistic Ground Cover

Definitely looks natural and not artificial as New Zealand claims. The darker black to beige pebbles make a stunning base for my 10 gallon beta tank. An 11 pound bag is enough to cover a 10 gallon (20 x 10 = 200 square inches) soil about 3/4 inch deep. This should be fine for plastic plants and can make cleaning easier, but I would suggest at least 2 bags for live plants. YES, it needs to be washed before use to remove dust and it takes about 20 rinse cycles in a 1-1/2 gallon bucket to clean it

Exactly as described

After fighting algae that was making my black lava rock and white rock look dull, I decided this look would be better. The grocery bag is harder plastic and broke in transit but I don't think I lost anything/much. The pebbles are a bit smaller than my colander so I didn't wash it (I forgot I have a good colander). However. The rock didn't fog up my tank badly (unlike that white rock - even after a couple of flushes!) and it did NOT mess up my pH (again - unlike that horrible white rock I found…

Fine gravel in a beautiful color. Your corridors will thank you!

After using all types of gravel and substrate I settled on this mix which I use in most of my aquariums. This is the perfect color and size for small aquariums (<30 gallons) as it blends in perfectly with any decor and is perfect for small fish. This gravel is very suitable for aquariums with plants and small fish species. Their corridors will appreciate the smaller size, making it easier for them to forage through forage without damaging their antennae. Planting in this gravel is very easy…
