After fighting algae that was making my black lava rock and white rock look dull, I decided this look would be better. The grocery bag is harder plastic and broke in transit but I don't think I lost anything/much. The pebbles are a bit smaller than my colander so I didn't wash it (I forgot I have a good colander). However. The rock didn't fog up my tank badly (unlike that white rock - even after a couple of flushes!) and it did NOT mess up my pH (again - unlike that horrible white rock I found at a big pet store bought). chain by the way) The smaller size is great. It's smooth enough for my killer slugs to easily dig through, but big enough to be easier to clean than sand. The smooth texture is perfect! He takes good care of my measles and my killer snails (unlike lava rock). I can easily place some food pellets under this stone so these valuable aquarium items can be dug up and eaten without my gourami stealing everything from them. So basically it's a win in every way I can think of!
