This is a lightbulb. It emits bright light when you turn on the switch. If you turn the switch to "off", it will go out. Update after 2.5 years. I bought a pack of 10 of these bulbs and screwed in the last 2 bulbs today. As other reviewers have said, the bulbs look cheap and cheap. The ceramic bases of many lightbulbs looked as if they hadn't been chipped. I was afraid that if I pushed too hard the base would break completely. The lamps definitely didn't last 2000 hours. The lifespan of each bulb seemed to vary. All of them were used in plumbing. Temperature and humidity played a role, with the lightbulbs over the most commonly used sink lasting the least. Still, I only paid $23 for a 10-pack. So for $2.30 a bulb, they're not that bad. Now for 2.5 years the price has increased by $13.
