I bought this because my dog keeps urinating from inside the cage. The cover I had before was flimsy and attached with velcro. He ripped off one record, then stuffed enough into the drawer to pull out and rip the others apart. He was then able to urinate freely out of the box again without the cover. The material was also thin and not waterproof. This case is more durable and since it is zipped it stays in place. It's nice that the top panel opens as he can't urinate through it but he can fly out. The material is liquid resistant. You have to wash it often, but there is no way around it. While learning outside would be more ideal for him, it also keeps my stuff dry and (hopefully) keeps him from climbing into his cage if he has one.
