A one star rating may not be fair, so let me explain. It didn't work for me, but it might work fine for someone else. I bought this for my 90 year old mother who is in a nursing home. The phone base is next to her bed, but her chair, which she sits in most of the day, is across the room. I had to replace her wireless handset with a wired hearing aid. As the matriarch of our family, she lives for her phone calls! She needed a phone next to a chair; hence the phone jack. I called tech support because I could call, but the phone didn't ring. I've worked with tech support and found that the phone works fine when connected to the base station, but while I can't say for sure, I suspect there was too much "noise" on the line interfering with the signal. If you bought this you might get better results and find that it works great in a traditional home setting, but it didn't work in her room. I had to return the phone jack to InstaJack.
