My child (7 years) can walk 5-9 miles and never complains. These shoes make it possible!

We are on our third pair of these sneakers (because my child is growing up and will need a larger size). They protect well and my kid (was 5, 6 and 7 years old) never complains on fairly long hikes (5 to 9 miles). Protects the ankle but allows for comfortable walking. I would recommend.
