Review on Western Digital WD5000AAKS: The High-Capacity 500GB Hard Drive You Need by Hayden Lim (Hayden L ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It has some flaws but the product is usable.

WDC WD5000AAKX-00U6AA0 Bought in January 2022 as a system unit for Windows 7 (released in September 2022). I stood in a 3.5" basket along with the WD5000AAKS, both were fixed with ordinary screws. After 7–8 months, it began to hum, resonate unbearably with the case at a frequency of 120 Hz (7200 RPM) and noticeably make noise when accessing the disk. I had to hang it in 5" compartment on elastic bands from shorts - normal flight. Despite the fact that the WD5000AAKS, which has worked for 18163 hours, has never grunted or buzzed. Motherboard Gigabyte EP43-DS3L (SATA 3Gb/s). Number of hours on: 2811 (117 days). According to S. M.A. R.T., everything is ok, there are no bads. HD Tune Pro: Transfer Rate Minimum: 55.1 MB/s Transfer Rate Maximum: 131.7 MB/s Transfer Rate Average: 100.1 MB/s Access Time: 15.8ms Burst Rate: 194.4 MB/s

Pros
  • • Price/performance/volume ratio. • Operating temperature without direct blowing <= 33°C.
Cons
  • • Low reliability of some specimens in terms of vibration and noise. • Automatic Acoustic Management is not supported. • Relatively long access time. • Ugly promotional ploy with useless SATA 6 Gb/s.
