I have 2 cats that don't fit in a box with a lid. If I cover them with a lid they hang over the side and go out of the box. So without a lid on my drawer when they close their shop, kitty litter ends up everywhere. I usually use clean cats to trip them up. However. I wanted a rug for our new house to keep dirt from getting everywhere because we no longer had a cat room as we are on 3 floors and I didn't want to put a crate on the ground floor where the guest bedroom is since our room is located It's on the third floor and I was worried my overweight 12 year old cat wouldn't be able to get down the stairs. We tried this rug in the second floor bathroom, but it wasn't big enough so dirt still got everywhere and smeared across the second floor tiles. We ended up moving it to a hidden corner on the third floor on carpet, so it didn't really do what I wanted (prevent dirt from getting onto the second floor tiles). I wish I had bought a bigger one, but that's not the manufacturer's fault. It's good for catching debris. It's a little difficult to clean - I try to shake it out but it still leaves some dirt on the mat afterwards. Although that's probably a good thing.
