Not all sections snap and hold very well. The imperfections of each section add up when you're creating a large area. They would come loose and it would hurt to hold it all together. You have a point where you can cut the riser, but it's not that easy to cut. The holes in some sections are clogged with excess plastic. With a little fiddling, it can withstand a lot of weight. It can easily accommodate 4 inches of sandy substrate, but you'll need a sheet to keep the sand from seeping through the space between the glass.
