Review on Upgrade Your Racing Experience With HIWOWSPORT Carbon Fiber Flat Bottom Racing Steering Wheel by Jay Brock

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well made, lightweight steering wheel

This is a really nice steering wheel for the money, and way cheaper than a Momo or Sparco. I needed a smaller, flat, D-shaped steering wheel for more leg room in my track car and took a shot with this one, and am very happy with it. The rim is shaped nicely and the spokes at around 1/4" thick are very strong. Only some minor issues or tradeoffs to be aware of. The rear mounting face of the center section on mine is ever so slightly bowed going out toward the spokes and not perfectly flat, which doesn't seem to matter as it still bolts on evenly and holds just fine. The finish coat is fairly thick so the center hole is slightly undersized at around 54-1/2 mm instead of 55. If you're using an adapter or hub that has a 55 mm registration flange, then it may not fit right on. One can easily file off some of the coating around the ID but I opted to machine down the flange on my adapter rather than compromise the finish coat and possibly risk future delamination. It looks like the finish coat might be a bit vulnerable to chips and scratches so you wouldn't want to release your quick release and toss the wheel aside inside a race car with a bare interior. The steering wheel feels strong and rigid, but I was actually hoping for a little bit of flex or give in it in case of a crash, but I'm sure an aluminum steering wheel is no less rigid.

Pros
  • Replacement Parts
Cons
  • While the HIWOWSPORT steering wheel is designed to fit most standard racing cars, it may not be compatible with all models, limiting its use for some drivers
