This is a great orbit sander for the home user or DIY-er.I've been refinishing furniture for a long time and I've used a variety of orbit sanders - this one in particular has a great vacuum system minimizing dust and particles. You should always wear a dust mask when using an orbit sander.It's a heavy duty sander and it will remove finishes easy, and it has a variety of pads for how roughly you want to sand. I'd recommend starting a little lower than full throttle, as this is a strong sander! It has a heavy motor and is made from high quality materials - its definitely something that will last. It worked great on my tabletop, and allowed me to get done in half the time hand sanding would of taken me.
