Review on Beck Arnley 201 1962 Light Switch by John Mahfood

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I pressed the brake to start the car and it felt like the brake had been pressed many times.

I was having trouble starting my 2008 Nissan Altima but could not find any information on the internet to help diagnose. The weird thing is that this can happen from time to time without warning. I pressed the brake to start the car and it seemed to me that the brake was pressed many times even though the car had been sitting for hours and sometimes days. After I left the car for a moment, the car started. Frustrated and confused, I took the car to my mechanic who was confident he could fix it. I received several calls from the mechanic and he informed me that he had run all possible tests and contacted several car manufacturers but could not find a solution. I brought the car home and BAM! It started happening again. I grabbed a glass of whiskey and kept looking for a solution. I went to www.carcomplaints.com and found several other people having this problem. It turns out this is very common on 2008 and 2009 Nissan Altimas. Especially when the car has driven 70,000 miles. I realized my car had just clocked up 74,000 miles. A forum member said he took his car to a Nissan dealership and was told they needed to replace both the brake/switch and the brake wiring harness. Unfortunately, this service cost him $599. Another person on the forum said they changed the brake/switch and the problem went away. I ordered this part which fits the car exactly and it arrived shortly thereafter. I could not find a video or instructions on how to replace this part. However, I found it very easy. You just squeeze the brake a few inches and twist the bad brake/shifter to the left. You can then pull out the brake switch. You must remove the faulty brake/switch by pulling it out of contact. Once that's done, just change the process. Reconnect the brake/switch and insert the white-tipped end into the designated hole near the brake pedal. Turn the brake switch a quarter turn to the right and DONE! Press the brake several times to turn on the brake lights. You can turn it to the right if the lights aren't set to the right sensitivity. I've had this new brake switch in the car for about a month and the car is behaving normally. This will save you a lot of money considering Nissan dealerships don't just replace the brake/shifter. They tell you they can't guarantee a job unless they replace both the brake/switch and the brake wiring harness.

Pros

Cons
