I have an extensive collection of vinyl records, 45rpm and 78rpm records. I've been collecting records since I was 5 years old and I still own some of them. Over the years I've tried all sorts of surface cleaners, brushes and solutions that have kept the record looking nice, but the sound quality hasn't improved much. The CDs came in and my record collection just sat on the shelf, barely touched, and I started to build a decent CD library. Everyone talks about the warm sound vinyl has compared to CDs (and I remembered that in my day) but when I dug one out and put it on the turntable it just didn't have the brilliance and clarity I remembered . Lots of clicks, pops and surface noise were still there, and they seemed to increase while the record was in the paper sleeve. I wanted to put my record collection up for sale to get rid of the clutter, but I figured I should try to polish it up to make it more appealing to the buyer. As I said, I've used all sorts of record cleaning wipes and gadgets that haven't affected the sound quality much. So I decided to give it another try and see what was available on Revain. I knew ultrasonic tanks were some of the best deep cleaners out there, but I never considered them for cleaning records. The tanks were a little pricey but not quite in my league. So when I discovered this rotating record holder, I thought it would be essential in this cleaning process. It had good reviews and looked nice and reliable so I decided to give it a try. No ultrasonic cleaner is included, it just spins the records slowly while the ultrasonic waves do their job. I was worried about getting the labels wet, but the water seems to stay in the grooves of the plate and never get on the label. There are many ultrasonic tanks on the market so after much research I bought one for a price close to this spinner. This raised the cost of the tank and lure to around $300, but when I evaluated the sets that included the tank and lure together, they cost a lot more. I installed everything, filled the tank with filtered water, set the timer for 5 minutes and we start cleaning. After they came out of the tank I dried them with a microfiber towel and built a dryer to let them dry completely. When I put the first 25-year-old record on the turntable, I was blown away. Clicks and pops from surface noise are gone, and also because the ultrasonic cleaning gets into the groove and removes all the dirt and dust that was there (which I shoved into the indicated groove, thinking I was doing the record a favor, wiped them down with all kinds of brushes and rags) Loyalty was amazing! I've always taken care of my records, but after a while they still sounded like old records. After cleaning them, I found no surface noise at all between cuts. It could have been the CD I was listening to. After skipping about 200 records in the process, I started with hundreds of 78rpm records. They clean so well that there is almost no surface noise. I suddenly heard the accuracy of this record as if I had just bought it brand new. Conclusion: I've run over 500 records through a tank with this unit and it continues to perform flawlessly. Definitely worth the money in my opinion. Yes, yes, yes, buy this device and get yourself an ultrasonic tank asap and get ready to marvel at your record collection again.
