Review on Sony ICF CD543RM Kitchen Discontinued Manufacturer by Shashi Jain

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Decent kitchen radio considering alternatives and location

There are very few radios under the counter other than Sony, which probably explains its popularity more than any other factor. Given the lack of space, reception is decent considering the antenna is in the power cord, despite having strong signals in a large metropolitan area. You must connect the device to the intended installation site BEFORE installation to check reception. The sound is satisfactory considering the speakers are placed at odd angles to most effectively disperse the sound around the room. There's a Bass Boost feature to make up for some of its limitations, but don't expect anywhere near audiophile quality, to say the least. The interface is intuitive with one exception: the only button on the front is for the timer function (we never used it), not the volume. Note that the device is relatively spill resistant when the buttons are fully covered, so it should hold up well to accidental splashes from an overzealous cook, although I wouldn't push it or place the device over an area that's consistently hot (as shown above ). ). Toaster). Given its limitations, the device is a relatively simple and functional under-counter radio that works as intended.
