I had a beautiful exotic goldfish that greeted me with 'fins up' every morning. However, after 24 hours of treatment the algae was gone from the water (no more algae mist - very quick and effective product) but the fins were down and I could tell my fish (her/his name was Goldie) was struggling. By the way, my younger fish was unharmed. I dropped everything and immediately did a 30% water change, making sure to vacuum up as much of the dead algae that had settled on the gravel as the instructions recommended. (Maybe the dead algae sucked in/concentrated the toxin) I also replaced the combo filter floss and activated charcoal and added API Stress Zyme bacteria. I was late - my beautiful Goldie died two days later. I would be very careful with this product and only use it when the water is cloudy with algae and you won't get rid of it for at least a week or two after a water change, reduced light hours etc. I certainly would not administer a maintenance dose (as suggested in the instructions) as this product is clearly toxic to fish. I would start with half the recommended amount per gallon and only inject it on the weekends so you can keep a very close eye on your fish every few hours. Make sure you have at least 30% water substitute on hand before using this product.
