This shovel is perfect for hard ice. I make homemade ice cream which is quite dense and while I've tried quite a few high quality ice cream scoops to be honest none of them worked half as well until I found this one. I've always been so frustrated breaking off small chunks of ice (with previous scoops of ice cream) until there are enough of them to make a full scoop. With this ice cream scoop, getting ice out of the tub is really no problem. If you like super premium ice cream that has less air and is therefore harder to scoop, or you just want a good quality ice cream scoop, I highly recommend this! Just remember to wash it by hand and not in the dishwasher or the outer layer will start to wear away leaving gunmetal gray streaks on the ice, which has happened to me. The replacement spoon was bought quickly and I will ensure it is hand washed as they have made you very clear about this throughout the package.
