Goldfish shouldn't be that complicated. I bought a Hydor canister filter to lower the ammonia levels in our tank. When I ordered the filter, the description said it came with everything except the charcoal, so I ordered charcoal. When I received the filter I read the manual and it says if you are using activated carbon you should only use it for a few days and then take it out because it can leach chemicals back into the water. The carbon serves a purpose, but I probably should have avoided buying this one.
