After a few days I can say that my husband and I are delighted as our almost 3 year old loves it! We have had so many struggles to deal with and now there is something that is making him anxious/eager/prepared to groom himself and with our help it is such a relief and help. The only tricky part is remembering to turn it on and off while it's still in his mouth so the toothpaste and water don't splatter everywhere, but even at this young age he knows how to remember it and it tries its own. UPDATE: After a few months he now prefers the non battery powered one. He says he wanted something softer. But it was a great tool that we don't regret because it really helped improve the quality of cleaning.
