This baby gate is essential when there is not enough space at the bottom of the stairs to open the gate. We needed a retractable gate due to the minimal space for swing gates and it met all my expectations. You can lock it by twisting the handle on top so it won't pop out when your child pushes the net. Opening and closing with one hand was also easy for me personally. I had no trouble locking with one hand (sometimes my parents do) but once you get the hang of it you can do it with one hand. I wouldn't recommend using it at the top of the stairs just for safety as a child or pet can get under the net if it sags a bit, but using it at the bottom of the stairs to prevent climbing leaves them less Place. Installation took a while but the instructions were easy. I just wanted to make sure everything is very straight and level so this is going to take a while as you need to make sure the wall brackets you put on each side line up with the opposite. You'll need to drill this into the wall to make it tight. I highly recommend using your own wall anchors if there is no post where you are installing them. I generally don't find the ones they contain as strong as my own. Overall, this retractable gate was exactly what I was looking for and it's perfect if you're short on space for a swing gate.
