The illustration shows a pipe with a socket or flare at both ends.
Tube shown with a flare or flare on both ends to accept a 3 inch socket. The answers to the questions even confirm that both ends are flared. I bought it specifically for this reason so I can cut it in half and use it on either side of my exhaust to make two short extensions for my turns.
