Review on Amazon Basics 3.5-inch SATA HDD Hard Drive 💾 Enclosure with USB 3.0 - High-Speed Data Transfer Solution by Barbara Simmons

Design: This case is very easy to use and the tool-free design makes it very easy to swap different hard drives - -- almost like dock station. The only oddity is that the design appears to be upside down. The most reasonable placement for this case would be lid up, but the text printed on this case suggests the lid is down, which is very odd. The plastic is ok although I prefer the metal body. Quality: Pros: 1. Supports large capacity drives very well. Tested with a 6 TB hard drive, no problem. I don't know what the max capacity of this case is.2. The data transfer rate is very high. It seems to be limited by the hard drive's native speed, at least 200 MB/s. I don't know the top speed of this case.3. Perfect transfer of SMART data and other metadata.4. Works on both Windows and Mac, no driver required. Cons: I suspect the included USB 3.0 cable is defective. The cable is very short and thin. Most importantly, the case keeps disconnecting and reconnecting on Windows, especially under heavy workloads. It's almost unusable. However, it's much better on a Mac and in most cases I can transfer 50-100GB of data without experiencing a disconnect. But it can still turn off after some time. The issue was eventually resolved (on both Mac and Windows) after I replaced the USB 3.0 cable that came with that case with a different cable than the other case. I once decided to return this product due to a connection issue and actually bought a different case. for this reason. But after realizing that the problem was in the USB cable. I decided to keep this case as I like the tool-less design (I also kept the new case to house my most used hard drive). I hope my experience can help people who are also suffering from disconnects with this product.
