Review on Sanitaire Tradition SC684G: Powerful Upright Commercial Vacuum for Efficient Cleaning by Ken Kowal

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Cleans fluffy carpets powerfully and effectively

This commercial vacuum cleaner from Sanitaire seems to stand up to every test. There are no frills - this is a straight, straight carpet brush in an upright position. No hose or other accessories. Heavy base, decent engine. DAS cleans your carpets. It penetrates DEEP into your carpet to pull out dirt, fur and hair. You can use the dial to adjust the height of the carpet. The engine is heavy and accounts for most of the weight. Extra long cable 50 feet long. Ideal for use in an office building or when you have a lot of carpet and space to cover. We have a combination of carpet and subfloor. More like carpets. It will pick up any fluffy tumbleweeds off the bare floor, but will most likely spit out any crispy stuff. This may depend on the carpet settings (ie if set too high the roller might not spin as hard?) I like it as a 2nd (or 3rd) vacuum when I want a more thorough cleaning - between 2 large labs, 3 cats and mine long hair, we lose a lot. My dogs bring in a lot of dirt (we have sandy soil) so I often sweep or remove piles of sand. I can only imagine what gets stuck in carpets. We have a two story house and our bedroom is fully carpeted. The dogs sleep with us all night and this room is the most built up. I feel much better using this sanitaire on carpets. It looks better and I breathe better. Easy enough to assemble. I usually prefer the one-off pouch system, but these are harder to come by and I was curious what that would be like. This model has a bag that you empty as needed. It's a new style for me and it's not hard to empty it. It's a little more tiring than emptying a cup, but the bag can hold significantly more before needing emptying than any other cup I've ever used. Most cup vacuums require me to clean them 4, 5, 6+ times in a single cleaning session (I clean houses and even my own sometimes, ha). It didn't need to be emptied multiple times, which is what I've been using so far. The rod is made of metal, the hooks are made of plastic. They seem solid, but that's the only place I've seen breaks. I also wish they were metal. I would also like to see at least one of the hooks rotate for quick line release. The spot to turn on the vacuum cleaner is a bit tricky. Must step on it properly and use more force than other vacuum cleaners. The same goes for the lever that moves the vacuum cleaner from a locked vertical position to a working position. Which reminds me. The profile is low. If you have furniture that is high enough to fit in the main engine case you should be able to slide it through. I found I could crawl under my coffee table as the handle folds out fully almost parallel to the floor. -- I like this for a quick clean without getting into corners. -- I like this for deep cleaning of carpets, so I only recommend it as a second vacuum for this purpose. Very durable, simple design. No complicated twists and turns to clog dirt (fur!). Even if the pouch needs to be emptied (not often), it seems relatively easy to care for. In general I like it. Just know what you can and can't do. I love it for my rough rugs, both high and low pile.
