Review on Juki TL-2010Q: High-Performance Portable Sewing Machine for Quilting, Tailoring, and Home Decor with Automatic Thread Trimmer by Kelly Caballes

Wow what a car!

I love this car. I've been arguing between this and Juki 2000q or Brother 1500s for weeks. I figured I might need speed control on this machine and I'm so glad I went for it. This car is fast! So instead of worrying about keeping my foot at a consistent level, I just set my speed a little higher than Turtle! The stitching is smooth and even, and it's relatively quiet compared to my Janome DC2015 machine (which I like too). He did a fantastic job (see a user error note below). It winds the bobbins smoothly and evenly, and the table has a sliding door for easy access to the bobbin area. The tension on my car was great (I've used a Mettler Metrosen so far). This is my first car with knee pads and it was a turning point. I usually sew standing up on a higher table, but I've started sitting down again to make it easier for me to use this feature. Recommendations: 1. I have enjoyed shopping at Sew Vac Direct through Revain. Excellent customer service. Steven helped before and after the purchase. I also purchased a 5 year extended warranty directly from Sew Vac Direct after the sale. I'm not sure if I need it, but I'm glad to get the guarantee.2. If you're using the included walking foot, be sure to fully release the presser foot pressure (there's a hint in the instructions, but I skipped it) and tighten the needle screw with the screwdriver. I broke 5 needles from finger tightening the needle screw and as I went through the bag's bulky seams it loosened a bit. This didn't happen as I used the supplied screwdriver to tighten it. When I first used the walking foot it also sounded different than my Janome (more clinking). Steven put me in touch with Elbert from Juki.com. He sent me a needle screw that he made specifically for the walking foot. (His customer service makes me happy I chose the Juki!) The foot is still noisier than my other car but seems to work fine and I sent Elbert a video and he said it sounded fine.3 . The lighting around the needle is good, but there are shadows to the right of the needle that make it difficult for me to see anything. I bought this LED lighting kit from Revain: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KGKB02Q Wow, that's an amazing difference. (There is a youtube video on how to install: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crUR5Y3lZSM) I don't work for them, I just found them a great accessory.4. I've read that some people have accidentally cut threads with the pedal, and someone recommended turning the pedal sideways. That's what I do and so it's a conscious movement of my foot to the right to cut the threads. So far everything has been fine.5. The needle threader is tricky, but mine works. There are a few videos, but I found this one the most helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6D5n8UZLHk I used the 14 gauge organ needles that came with it. It's an art to use and I didn't get it on my first try yet, but it really works. If I didn't answer your question, please leave a comment. I have not used the machine on a quilt frame. I intend to use it for making bags, quilting small pieces (for now), curtains and some garments so this review will be more helpful for those like him.
