I would give these stones a higher rating but not sure what they are coated with. Some reviews indicated that the stones had a waxy feel and that they needed to be washed before use. I would like the seller to indicate what the stones are covered with so I can be sure that using them in a planter will not harm the plants. I also decided to wash them in very hot running water. I even used some dish soap to remove the coating. My stainless steel sink has a kind of waxy black film that will surely wash away over time. But all that wax was on the rocks. I prefer plain black stones with no wax finish. Good luck with your purchase.
