I initially looked at Xero waterproof hi-tops, but I'm very glad I listened to the reviewers who mentioned that they were stiff and uncomfortable. In contrast to these shoes, these TerraFlex live up to their name and are very flexible. They feel like ballet shoes with toe protection and great traction - and that resonates on the track. The contact and terrain control is really great. I achieved the best fit by ordering half a size larger than my measured size and then wearing thick socks with callus protection. You can also adjust the fit a bit by removing the insoles. The only thing to note about this shoe is that it inherently offers minimal support. If you injure your ankle, you're likely to easily re-injure it wearing these shoes on uneven ground, and you may need to put on an ankle brace or switch to traditional, stiffer walking shoes to heal the injury.
