I'm not a sweaty gamer and my hands never get dirty while gaming. I noticed that after about a week of playing, the color became distorted and turned slightly brown to light purple. The lid works great as a replacement. If you're like me and got this because you liked your own controller, I suggest maybe not mating. Also, it's just a sprayed cover, it's not real material, which is probably why it gets stained. I don't think there is a protective layer on top of the paint, otherwise it would also protect against staining. Again, it's not because my hands are dirty or sweaty, it's most likely just wear and tear, and if so it's only been a few weeks. After a week it starts to change.
