Review on πŸ”Œ Metra 70-8114: Steering Wheel Control Wire Harness with RCA for 2003-Up Toyota/Scion/Lexus Vehicles by Michael Murphy

Highly recommended - read this for important installation info

I installed this on a 2007 Toyota Solara with a Pioneer head unit. This is a great product, but you will also need to purchase and install the Metra ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Interface for it to work. I connected the wires from the white connector to the car stereo wires and in most cases it was just a color match but be sure to check your specific wiring diagrams. The white connector on this harness connects to the car's steering wheel connector (formerly the factory radio). Don't worry about which socket it plugs into as Toyota has made all the connections to their car stereos differently so it ONLY fits the steering wheel socket. The 3.5mm plug is then plugged into your new car stereo's wired remote control input jack, which is usually located on the back of your main unit. Next here is a very important point that no other reviewer has pointed out and when I called Metra they actually gave me the wrong answer - when connecting this harness you do NOT need to use the connectors/harnesses supplied with the ASWC. -one. After connecting the 70-8114 white connector to your car's steering wheel connector and the 3.5mm connector to your car stereo, connect the 12-pin black connector (shown in the lower left corner of the picture) directly to the ASWC-1 (sold separately). One connection/plug to ASWC-1 and you're done! In my case, I turned the car key to the accessories position, turned on the radio, watched the LEDs on the ASWC-1 cycle through initialization, setup, and setup, and after about 15 seconds the steering wheel controls worked. - Volume, up/down channel and mode selection. Works perfectly! Another lesson I learned in my case was that even though my Solara doesn't have a power antenna (antenna in the windshield), the power antenna wire from the stereo had to be connected to the blue wire at 70-8114 turns out that Solara has an antenna booster to build into the stereo. Once plugged in, the antenna (and FM reception) was as good or better than the stock radio. I recommend this wire harness 70-8114 along with ASWC-1 for Toyota vehicles when replacing your OEM car radio.
