I bought this primarily to pack and pack my Oregon in luggage, not so much for outdoor use. Out of curiosity, I took it on a hike with an Oregon 550 installed and found it worked really well on the trail despite being a little big and bulky (my initial perception). When hiking, try attaching it to the strap of your main backpack near your chest. When you open it up, the GPS attaches to the inside of the case with a clip and strap on the back, much like the carabiner/strap that comes with your GPS, and then secures with Velcro to keep it from moving inside emotional. Case. The device stays in half against the external attachment strap and carabiner, and the thin straps on each side prevent the case from opening more than 90 degrees, meaning it's parallel to the ground and at the ideal viewing height in this case is when attached to your chest. The carabiner can be easily removed when not in use. Underneath the carabiner is a nylon velcro strap with a loop that easily attaches to various things, just like the back of a camera bag. There is none of that in the picture here on Revain. The gray strap with the black plastic buckle protruding in the picture is part of the buckle system and not for attaching to gear. Reading this review, don't confuse the gray straps on the outside with the black strap and plastic clip inside the case. The case won't let you use the 550's built-in camera, but it can take up to 15 seconds to remove it from the case to use the camera, as if replacing it when you're done, so do it It doesn't matter if you're not in a hurry. while on the trail.
