Review on ⚡ Power Up Safely with Amazon Basics Rotating Wall Mount Surge Protector - 1080 Joules by Luis Tuazon

Revainrating 3 out of 5

No mounting hole, Ethernet limited to 100Mbps, 9 outputs with coax and Ethernet protection.

One of the reasons I bought this was to mount it on the wall. It has no mounting "keyholes" as described. The Ethernet port specs on the surge protector aren't listed, but using them between my cable modem and router limited the connection speed to 100m on ports rated 1000m. Speed tests showed about a 26% reduction in throughput measured at the router. Bypassing the Ethernet connection at the surge protector restored the 1000m connection and the speed test restored throughput. The speed difference measured on the SpeedTest network was 121 Mbps without Ethernet protection and 89 Mbps with surge protection between the modem and router. This is unacceptable for modern LANs with 1000 databases. I don't think ethernet security is necessary between two devices (modem and router) so I'll use it without that feature. If you use this when bandwidth is critical, be aware of this limitation. The description should reflect these two issues.

Pros
  • SURGE PROTECTION: Protects devices from power surges; MOV flame retardant technology for added surge and surge protection
Cons
  • boring packaging
