Review on 🚲 Superteam 700c Clincher Carbon Wheelset: 38/50/60/88mm, 23mm Wide, UD Matte Finish by David Skyline

Revainrating 5 out of 5

GREAT WHEELS FOR THE PRICE BUT MISSING SOME COMFORTABLE CREATURES

A big fan of these wheels as are the 5 other people I've recommended them to. I have countless miles on them, my co-worker has put 20,000+ miles on ONE of his SuperTeam sets and only sold them because his frame cracked before the wheels broke lol. Great quality, ready to use right out of the box and I've hardly had to pinch my spokes after many, many miles. Good wheels for beginners, weekend warriors, training bikes and even pros. I'm a bike mechanic, so the review gets a bit more technical from here. What I love is that they use sealed cartridge bearings and paddle spokes, very true from day one, the tires are easy to pop on and off with tools but are definitely a win. They just don't fall off with normal use, U-profile as opposed to the V-profile of older carbon wheels which means less turbulence which means better aerodynamics, modern lacing patterns and high quality bushings (novatec I think?). Overall the fit and finish is great, comes with custom carbon pads, quality skewers, valve extenders and spare spokes. Great overall package. What I don't like is that the freewheel is VERY noisy, after an 80 mile ride I removed the cassette to give the gearing a deep clean and the entire freewheel housing almost fell off with it. The freehub lock nut somehow worked loose and I was lucky it didn't affect my ride, it could have been a SOL with a bolted cassette or other damaged drivetrain components. I really don't like the fact that they use J-Bend spokes when you can get a set of Vittoria (very well known brand) COMPATIBLE ALLOY LIST WITHOUT CAM for $180-200 with STRAIGHT SPOKES! I definitely prefer straight spokes in certain scenarios like cornering, but I'm happy to report that the wheels don't have the "leverage" that some carbon wheels suffer from as the wheel flexes in turns and literally spring meets the spokes.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • There are flaws
