LEAKAGE - NO MORE!

I wouldn't trust this bag to keep my camera's memory cards dry. The day I received it I removed the liners and put a roll of toilet paper inside. Then I poured water from the kitchen sink faucet over it. It's leaked. The paper wasn't fully saturated, but I didn't hold it under the stream for long. I twirled it while holding it under the current. I did it three times. Enough water has entered to create an undesirably humid environment with brief exposure to the sun. I actually bought it with the intention of using it as a water bag when snorkeling. I looked at pictures online and it seems to have really decent padding so I gave it a try even though it's advertised as 'waterproof' not 'waterproof'. A careful inspection of the gasket and the edges of the top cover in contact with the gasket revealed no defects. It just won't let the water through. The only "waterproof" ability of this case lies in its material (plastic and silicone, not leather, etc.). Other than that, it looks and feels like a well-made case. The hinge looks and feels solid. The latch has resistance closing and doesn't appear to be leaking, but it did and I don't know why. I have submitted a return request. As I expected the seller refused to return and probably did the right thing because they never said it was "waterproof", just "waterproof". After hearing this I decided to take the gasket off and put in some of the latex bath sealant I had. I applied it to the underside of the gasket that will remain attached to the body of the case. A day later, I dunked it in a pot of water, held a coffee cup underneath, and returned an hour later. The toilet paper was dry. The case didn't work. I use a water based sealer. If I had to do it all over again I would use a silicone based sealant. FYI, spent the day at a local hotel with a pool. I wrapped my room key in a tissue and carried it in my zippered swimsuit pocket. After a few hours I checked, the fabric is dry. The activity is similar to snorkeling.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
