Needs work, not enough ports, damaged external hard drives

This product got good reviews on blogs and youtube and was a little cheaper than CalDigit's TS3 hub so I bought it. a week and here are my first impressions: 1) Just a little shy on USB-C ports and USB-A ports. I do a lot of weekly backups and duplicate drives so I would appreciate a hub with 2 USB A ports or 2 USB B ports so I can do A/B backups. And so I need to use additional keys and hubs to make volume duplication easier. 2) The SoHo hub is having trouble installing external hard drives. I recently had a corrupted 4TB WD drive after plugging it into SoHo and it wouldn't connect to my MacBook Pro. Luckily I have a backup of this damaged drive, but the incident doesn't inspire confidence. 3) The main USB CE/A port is on the right side of the hub. If you have a setup where the laptop is on the left side of the desk and your monitor is on the right, it creates an awkward situation when the cable doubles. Might work better if placed at the back to make it more independent. I was hoping this product would replace my thin Satechi Type-C hub in my backpack, but I no longer trust CalDigit Soho for that. that version 2 of this product offers 2 USB-A ports, 2 USB-C ports, a better position for the main I/O port and a more secure attachment for external hard drives. Thunderbolt 3 compatibility is also welcome. Until then, I think a $60 USB-C slim hub adapter will work much better for most people. Update (August 2021) I use this device weekly for photo and video capture to transfer memory cards to two SSDs. (main and backup). It powers SSDs very easily, but I don't connect hard drives to it anymore, I'll connect it to the laptop itself. I originally paid $100 when it was first released. I found it too expensive after using the device for a while. But the discounted price of $70 makes it a bargain when it comes to USB-C hubs. I would love to see a Thunderbolt 3 hub in this form factor.
