Doesn't make good coffee

I've been making coffee with this machine for a week and no matter how small adjustments I make, it still doesn't give a satisfactory result. The main problem seems to be the distance between the coffee and the top chamber filter - they don't sit right next to each other like in a moka pot. There is a small "lid" with holes that should fit the coffee while it's in the funnel filter, but it just sits there and allows the pressure of the water entering the funnel to lift it and the coffee grounds to the top bring to . both below and below. Coffee grounds also occasionally run back into the lower water chamber (smell of burnt coffee) and expression grounds into my real coffee (did it come out of a funnel or all the way out of the lower chamber? All of these don't work well. Another big problem, but I could be sorry do when the coffee tastes good is that the depth of the spout is too shallow for the wide square container which causes the coffee to squirt out unless you pour it in at a tiresome slow pace I wanted this pot sooo for work, but I'd rather drink instant espresso than the coffee this pot makes.
