Oil change MK5 Jetta 2.5L - fits perfectly

This socket saved me. 4 days ago I started changing the oil on my wife's Jetta MK5 2.5L. I used to change the oil at one of those chain oil change places and they must have got the gorilla to tighten the oil filter canister! That night and the next day, I visited four different auto repair shops and tried different wrenches and other oil filter removal tools. Tools (strap wrenches, aggressive jaw pliers, etc.). Nothing worked. The ring spanner 74/76 15F simply slipped off because it had too many flanges. O'Reilley's 75mm 14F plastic box wrench almost broke before I threw it away. OEM 75mm 14F Wrench Slipped Off Auto Zone; I think 0.5mm was too much extra space. I didn't want to wait for delivery but I had no choice. I was also sad to spend close to twenty on a specialty tool compared to six for regular local box wrenches. Most of the options I tried were mentioned in a thread on the VW Vortex forums that other users had success with and I think they would have been fine if the previous oil change hadn't made the canister so tight. Yesterday after work he was waiting on my porch so I grabbed my breaker from the garage, slid under the car, put the box wrench on and gave it a smack to land it, then I plugged the breaker into the jack socket. I applied some force to the rod and the filter housing started spinning! I finished the oil change and happily found that the amount I had saved on that oil change, even using a better filter and synthetic oil than I could get locally, was enough of a price difference that the tool in the Compared to and practically free I'll take it next time.
