Doesn't work well with Sony 4k TV via HDMI EARC, recommended optical

Bought a Sony x900h/x90h TV complete with this speaker. First, I like the sound it makes. I have no problems with the subwoofer/bass. When that works, the movies sound pretty good, although I'm still trying to find a better one as sometimes I can't hear the dialogue, which is supposedly a good thing. Now my main problem is that this soundbar doesn't play good audio through EARC/HDMI. My audio issues are happening on TV streaming apps and also on my PS4. I have to restart the soundbar to get sound again. Now my workaround, recommended to me by one of Revain's customer support teams, is to use Optical Link. This solution worked for a few weeks but is no longer the case. If you have a Sony TV x90h or similar, change Auto/Hdmi to PCM/Digital (something like that) in the audio output settings and you will keep all the basic functions of using HDMI (start with TV, volume control via remote control from TV) BUT you lose Dolby Digital Plus (and ATMOS). Eh Personally I don't know if this is a good workaround, although OPTICAL offers better sound you don't get the features you paid for. I have the latest firmware but it didn't fix it and if you google sound or no sound and soundbar the problem is still there and unsolved for many. It's hard to decide whether to return it or not. and get something else (I'd consider a JBL soundbar instead). I would do some research on how compatible it is with your TV (even if it's a Sony) before buying. Sound wise it's pretty epic when you turn it on (not so much when you're trying to watch something late at night and the volume is low you can't hear dialogue), and Spotify, wow, sounds complete different. I think you're better off going for something bigger like Sony's flagship or the Sub 300 soundbar. It's in the middle and doesn't really add much if you're having inconsistent performance. It kind of ruins the movie if the audio cuts out accidentally. However, if it works for you, you're in luck.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • So far so good
