I bought a Redmi Note 8 to replace my Essential PH-1. A few reasons I bought the Note 8: - Big, bright screen, no top bezel - Unlockable bootloader (more on that later) - Decent camera - Under $230 Pros: - The screen is very bright and can be used a lot when needed getting dark. The colors are great. The camera is very good for the price. It has four different cameras (normal, wide-angle, macro, ultra-wide-angle). I haven't tested it in dark conditions, but it shows more detail than any other phone I've owned in this price range. The battery life is very good. I'm not a very active phone user, but using the browser, watching a little video, making calls and sending emails for an hour every day only drains the battery to 88%. This phone can easily be used for a whole day. The headphone jack works well and the sound quality is good. I don't use it much, but this phone has it, and it's nice that you can plug in headphones without an adapter. There's also an FM radio tuner in the headphone jack! Ideal for listening to local radio stations. Cons: The fingerprint sensor is fast, but about 25% of the time I have to press it 1-3 times to unlock it. I've added fingers a few times and it doesn't matter. Compared to my Essential PH-1, the sensor is inferior as it's a bit slower and doesn't have complex gestures like swiping down for notifications. It should work fine for most people and works better than the iPhone 5 I used a few years ago. - The processor is good, but sometimes the phone can lag, and you have to wait a while for it to "catch up". It only happens once a week at most, but when it does it's a bit annoying. I'm a power user when it comes to the apps I use on my phone, so I guess most people won't notice. Although this phone claims to work on 4G LTE, I've been unable to connect to anything other than 3G at best. He only gets LTE next to a mobile phone mast. I use T-Mobile in San Diego, California. I know the phone says it only works with the top band, but I was expecting more. Regardless, I always have a cellular connection and don't use my phone for high-bandwidth things, but for those looking to stream US HD video, look elsewhere. Other: - This phone (hardly many) has an unlockable bootloader. . I refuse to buy phones that don't have this feature (and neither should you) because I can't use an operating system that respects my security and privacy. I'm willing to forgive the cons listed above for this feature alone, as it's one of the most important for me, along with a good screen and decent battery life. I had to wait a week to unlock the bootloader, but after that the process was easy enough. Verdict: Great phone with some 4G connectivity issues if you live in the US. The camera, screen, battery and the ability to unlock the bootloader are excellent for the price. Offer.
