This is the second windowsill I have. I've had the first one for years and my cats loved it. The cover was eventually worn out after approx. 10 years or continuous use - by more than one kitten. It was a coveted spot, so it always depended on which of our three kittens got there first. there was no point in trying. It also has a really nice removable zippered bolster so is a lot harder than I thought it would be. My old one didn't have a roller - it's a really nice addition. I thought maybe I'd change things up this time and use a different type of window seat. and metal braces. However, after seeing reviews and photos of how others were made so cheaply and the issues people were having, I decided to stick with what was tested and true for us. Also, I noticed that there are a lot of good new design options in the kind of cases we've had (as I mentioned, my other one was designed 10 years ago). The first one we had many years ago we installed using the included velcro to secure it to the window sill. It worked great for many years and even sat in a very sunny window. It leaves a bit of a residue when removed, but that was a small price to pay for years of enjoyment. However, this time I decided to screw it in, knowing the holes would be easy enough to fill. and paint anytime it can be removed. I'm very glad I chose this one because it's very durable and comfortable and now that I see it in person I really like it. I have no doubt that this one will last for many years as well. It is well padded and the cover is nice and soft. Just an additional note my kitten is about 19 (he found us and was fully grown so we don't know for sure but he was with us for 18 yrs) He was very malnourished and his coat was short and unkempt - he was starved and suffered from extreme malnutrition. He was not neutered and therefore had the appearance of a big cat. He was also used to just being outside, so he lived in our garage at night (his choice, not mine). I wanted him to live in our house - he'll cry until they let him out. One night he had a terrible fight, but he still came to our house. The vet thought that because of his injuries, he managed to survive the coyote attack. At that point we spayed him and also cured him of the attack (I know poor guy!). Now he had no choice - while he recovered he had to get used to us and stay indoors. (It wasn't an easy journey, but if he wanted to live here I had to be able to protect him - our cats are domestic cats) We were shocked. After about 6 months of good nutrition, his fur started to change and grow - it turned out to look like a beautiful Russian Blue. His coat is beautiful and he is just adorable (I would say it took a lot of time and patience). I've added this last part about our cat as I hope people will learn about his life story and be inspired and encouraged to take on seemingly sometimes impossible animal cases that can have wonderful, amazing and amazing results.
