Review on πŸ’Ύ Inateck 2.5 to 3.5 SSD Mounting Bracket with SATA Cable and Power Splitter Cable - ST1002S by Andrea White

It works, but I had to apply a few fixes

This is a computer I built in 2006. This is a great computer, but it needed some updates. I first upgraded the operating system from WinXP to Win7 Home Premium. The system drive consisted of 2 Samsung 500GB 7200RPM hard drives in RAID-1, but I had so much stuff loaded that it took a few minutes to boot up. So - - I cloned the system drive to a 500GB SSD using Macrium Reflect (free for home use - HIGHLY recommended) and replaced the RAID 1 pair with the SSD. Of course, I needed a bracket to fit the 2-1/2" SSD in the full-size slot. I have InaTeck. Problem 1: My old computer used 90 degree connectors, Inateck mount - no access to connectors. Luckily, I went with a two-tier bracket - so if the SSD is mounted in the top position, the connector will fit. YAY. Second, my computer case uses screwless hard drive clips that fit into the standard hard drive mount screw holes. The Inateck uses system screws that are SMALLER than a standard HDD mounting screw, so I had to drill holes to make them fit. Finally - and it's hard to tell from the photos - - but the back of the SSD, if it is installed in a computer 2 inches deeper into the case than any other full-size hard drive. Luckily I replaced 2 hard drives with an SSD, so there was enough space to install the drive. The Inateck system does NOT have front-to-back SSD placement options. To me this is a design flaw. I was impressed with the amount of data and power adapter cables that came with the kit. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't need any of these (including the EIDE to SATA converter I got since the Gigabyte MoBo AND the Samsung hard drives I originally got back in 2006 were both EIDE and also support SATA).

Pros
  • Solid construction
Cons
  • Not sure
