Definitely grey, not black. but it's ok and what i wanted. This is very similar to cowhide leather that has been waxed and then turned inside out to give it an aged and cracked appearance. It's not suede or rough fabric, but it has a softer feel. I've found that rubbing the top plate doesn't darken the color so much that it's noticeable, but it does help soften it. Overall pretty heavy and great for the wind. The zipped chest pockets are ventilated, as are the vertical zips on the back. Armor pieces tend to be dense foam, but that's not for riding to me, it's for beauty, so they fit right off the bat. I'm 5'8 and 165 pounds and the M fits perfectly. The sleeves are a bit longer, but that's how riding jackets work. Great quality for the price and I've gotten lots of compliments.
