Post Updated: Apr 2020 Still no leaks in 5.5 years), very happy to have them available on roofing work. Original post: November 2014 Before installing the photovoltaic system, I mounted 6 of these anchors on the asphalt shingles. Roof. Installation was easy if you can find a specific rafter location. Apply sealant to the bottom of the boot to improve waterproofing. Tuck a shoe under the shingle (but not in the gap between the shingles) in the middle of the rafter (can be passed from below first). Drill two holes on either side of the rafter, insert a U-bolt in the holes, go into the attic and attach the plate and nuts. It's really fast! Remember, if you have a 2x4 structure, follow the instructions for installing cross braces below the roof face on adjacent rafters. I've had them installed for 6 months now, no leaks and they are solid. This is correct for security reasons. The top of the trunk closes well when not in use. Provides confidence as part of a complete suspension system.
