With large dogs, it won't take long.
If you have large dogs like me (photo of my boy Kane as an example) I don't recommend them. They are ideal for medium/small dogs. But big dogs overwhelm him a lot (mine weighs about 70-80). I wish it took longer than a week for the wire to become exposed and rust (causing the whole thing to pop once my dog pulls). I kept it indoors at night and in inclement weather so I don't know why it rusted so quickly. Spring was great and did what it was supposed to
