Inside the box, the three figures are packed very securely in several layers of bubble wrap. Once you get rid of the bubble wrap, the figures will be brightly colored with pretty good care. Many products like this apply the decorative painting very casually and haphazardly, but this one is pretty good. Apart from the paint being applied very carefully, they don't smell like plastic or acrylic which is good, they don't poison the fish. I still recommend washing them thoroughly in clean water (no soap, of course). For added effect, the submarine has a bubbler. The bubble stone is glued to the bottom of the submarine with hot glue, but its lead is kinked. I'm pretty sure the fountain will open on its own after some air pressure is applied to it from the pump. The captain figure stands well on the counter but since it doesn't have a pedestal you won't be able to see his legs once you put him in the tank as you have to partially bury his legs in the rocks to keep him upright unless , you have flat rocks in the aquarium to place it. Keep in mind that if you plan to group three of these close together, the sizes of the three elements will be different, making either the captain look very tall or the lighthouse very low.
